Matthew was eight when the murder occurred, and althought he did not witness it, he did believe he knew who the murderer was. So began the saga that would lead him into depression, memory loss, and an inability to cope with others. With only a few of his childhood friends still with him, Matthew and they ventured through puberty, World War II, and all the adventures that came with living in a small fishing village on the North Carolina coast.
